The shop was updated the other day with a few ‘regular’ style bags in Neo and Middie size. There should be matching Petite size bags in a a few days. And as you may have seen over on Instagram the silver rocket bags are still in progress. Working with the tissue lame and creating the window and rocket fins adds a bit of construction time. So far four are in the works with certainly more afterwards.

Also you may notice a new little logo up with the top buttons. Yes, I caved and joined Pinterest. I’ve no idea what I’m doing and what I really want to pin but there I am. Generally when I find tidbits on the web that are interesting they go into Pocket or Evernote. Not quite sure then what my overall strategy will be with ‘pinning’ though. What do you pin? Do you keep track of ‘someday/maybe’ ideas only on Pinterest now or do you have a list somewhere?

In the world of knitting there are only 6-7 more rows of the Vernalis hat left wahoo! And yeah…still need to send that baby blanket to me great niece. Must really get better at my GTD set up and actually doing a lot more.

The work world continues to be frustrating but eh my friends, family, and crafty hobbies keep the sanity on track. Barring a lotto win I need to figure out, again, what I want to be when I grow up.

So many other things to post like the recently finished Comma Quilt and Izzy’s Quilt and some pincushions. Lots of things!

I now have several Sizzix hexagon dies but so far the 1″ side die has eluded me. So for that size I am still using my teflon templates for English Paper Piecing. Punching a second hole in them gives you an way to pin the fabric to the template making for an easier time with basting. For the smaller teflon templates I sliced off 1/4″ from each side of a few templates. Has anyone had experience with making other shape templates with a Sizzix or Cricut? Since the Cricut goes by the height of the shape I’m having a terrible time trying to make the right size of triangles.

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

I have a list of things I need to blog about like the Six Year Coin Quilt and Izzy’s Quilt. The list is the first step right? Well this post is mainly to claim the blog over on BlogLovin’ but I figured other updates wouldn’t hurt.

Well let’s see here. If you follow me elsewhere you have probably seen I have gone quilting ga-ga once again. I am still sewing dolly carry bags and knitting though. Oh yes and cross stitch and all that other jazz. Quite multi-craftual.

Have I started on BlytheCon New York stock yet? Um…no. I started a list. Does that count?

Did I start on that rocket ship bag idea I talked about in October/November? The one that I came up with in talking to twitter and IG pals about the silver lame fabric I found at Hancock’s in Tucson? Um why yes I did get the protoype done last night. Overall it turned out well. Just a few things to work on to improve the wings and porthole. Oh and SpaceGun got me going on other future ideas. Dear my!

I did also start reworking the fabric stash gallery and made some changes so that it is easier to update. Which means I am more likely to *keep* it updated. It was terrible…someone would pick a fabric and I’d have to tell them I didn’t have anymore…then sometimes their top three picks went like that. Not good folks! Which reminds me that I need to take out a fabric already.

Quilty: Loads of Comma is in my fabric closet now for a plan I have for a lap throw for Spacegun my darling. Do hope it works out as well as it looks in my Visio plan. Emerald Challenge is due as well as a pincushion for swap at the April PHXMQG meeting so those are things on my mind. Scrappy Trip still only has 14 blocks. And paper piecing is faboo. I am working on catching up on my BOM (block a month) projects.

Knitty: Still working on Luxie Lou’s hat but on the decreases! Baby sweater one of two is nearly done but I hate the gauge and have transferred that feeling to the whole project. Think that needs a redo. Vitamin C cardi has no new updates. Yes, the knitting has lessened lately but some easy project need brought back into the mix for good down time work.

The baby sweater started out nice...

Stitchy: Woodland Sampler is not even started. I do have most of the floss though. Kawaii Winter Wonderland is at a standstill but hey I have until December now right? Another set of projects I adore and need to take time for. Going to pop general sewing in here too. Just received a new skirt book “The Essential A Line” and need need need the pocket one. I’ve not made clothes for me other than Halloween costumes in ages so a skirt is a good start. I have a sway back though so I need to drudge up all my info on pattern altering for a nice fit.

Remodel-y: Well we found some wall patching issues in the master bath when working on that so we are going to fix that before painting. Looks like at some point someone maybe leaned or fell on the extended counter and pulled it from the wall and they patched it badly. I am going to move on to the floor though so at least we can get back to a two potty household and safe some sanity. The bathroom is a ‘mini makeover’ so I am just taking up the stick on tiles I put down a few years ago and laying new vinyl blanks on top of the sheet vinyl. Also keeping the sad builder grade vanity and trying my hand at chalk paint and wax.

So Spacegun started going to DnD Encounters again but I decided I did not want to play. The group he is in looks like great fun though and there were a couple of minifigs being used for players. Perfect! We are not just bursting with fabric and yarn around here but with Lego as well. He went to work on making Gallows as a minifig and my task was to make him a tattered cape that was not jet black.

In comes a wee scrap of Kona cotton, a Lego cape, and sharp tiny scissors. I heavily starched two layers of Kona (why not make a back up cape right?) and used an existing cape as a template. For the holes I used a small hole punch to get started and then scissors for the rest.

Using an existing Lego cape as a template.

Now Gallows here can be the star of the adventure party in his Cloak of Translocation. A perfect quick and easy use of scraps aimed to please any Lego fan. Little capes of different shapes can be added to pretty much any minifig. I could see some cute little personalized superhero capes.

..:..

I would suggest to use some fray check, at least on the edges that are used to secure the cape onto the torso peg. First go around I had not done that and lost a hole due to fraying. Since I had cut two this wasn’t a problem as the other one worked just fine and was fray checked before adding to the minifig.

Fray check the edges.

I now know why my grandmother cursed when asked to make afghans in black. Since my knitting time is mostly at Tuesday knit meetup these days it has been especially fun in the so-so lighting at the cafe where we meet. It will awesomely hide mistakes though I think so it will be well worth it.

Speaking of hats, the relaunch of the felted and embroidered Blythe hats is going well. I’ve been on an embroidery kick lately so it has been fun to try out some stem stitch in them in addition to the back stitch I usually use.

I hope all in the US (or from the US living elsewhere) had a nice Thanksgiving. We did had a nice relaxing day of brunch (our 4 year old friend we found out ‘loves muffins so much’ haha) and then a post dinner hangout with leftovers and games.

On the crafty front my big wish for the holidays is a Sizzix now. I was eyeing the super neat looking Vagabond but more that I ponder it I think a Big Shot or Big Kick would be great for me. There is a really neat looking Vintaj one but my practical side see that the Big Shot is cheaper. Just think of all the hexagons I can make it chomp. Whee! Oodles of hexagons would be great and a number of other things.

In other news, lots of bags ready for the shop and finally have a few hats ready as well.

Greetings! Just a quick note to say that the Etsy shop is off vacation now. There are a few bags in progress including neo sized deluxe and patchwork middie. Also returning to the shop soon with be felted/fulled hats. I haven’t done these in a number of years. Here is a peek at one awaiting decoration.

Recently Gracie and I and a few other of the doll gang went back to my home state of Indiana to visit family and friends. My goodness what a change now to see Fall leaves. It was a wonderful long weekend that provided a good creative boost. Also picked up a new member of the doll family, a Jerry Berry named Harriet.

I have made chicken salad a few times and of course have done the sterotypical food photo on Instagram of it. I was making it again today and thought I would share a bit about how simple this is to make.

Assembling the ingredients

Now I use chicken, apples, mayo, celery, and sometimes grapes. That is it. Pretty simple. For the chicken there are lots of options like a usual get some chicken breasts and cook them up. What I have been doing lately though is either getting the pre-cooked chicken at Fresh and Easy or getting a rotisserie chicken from Fry’s. Sometimes if you go just at the end of the time when they offer the rotisserie chicken they will have marked them down to ensure they move. I just bring it home and either have some for dinner and shred the rest of just shred the whole thing. This time I happened upon the chicken pre-shredded at the deli. For the apples I usually go with gala, fuji, or granny smith. Today I used one gala and one granny smith. For the mayo I like to use the Fresh and Easy brand because there is no sugar added and no starch thickener. I am trying to limit the carbs in my diet, especially sugar and starch as my body really doesn’t like them. So many other mayos I looked at had sugar in them. When I add grapes I use red or green, or both. Today I opted for no grapes to save a little on sugar content. And well celery is celery so no tip there.

Chop it all up

Assembly is pretty easy. Chop up the celery, apples, and grapes if you are using them. Add that to the chicken you have shredded or purchased already shredded. I usually just eyeball how much I am added. I did two apples today and three stalks of celery. Just look at the mix and think about how much crunch you want in each bite and your preference for the mix of flavors.

All mixed up

Now is where you add in your mayo. I start with a heaping spoon or two and then go from there. You want to coat everything but not drown it and make a gloppy mess. Add a spoonful and mix it around then see if you need a bit more or not.

Chicken Apple Celery Salad

And there you have it. Simple chicken salad great to bring to a potluck or have for lunch.
